Cars in Germany's Town Found Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Officers reported they were alerted by a resident who noticed a car in Hanau covered with reddish fluid

Approximately 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.

Law enforcement say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.

The fluid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then located many other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement report preliminary tests indicate the liquid was probably human blood.

"There is still no indication as to its origin; investigators are not yet cognizant of any injuries in connection with the incident," they stated.

Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the public for tips.

A senior official commented the attack made him stunned and required to be addressed promptly.

"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on social media, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
